anti-inflammatory smoothie and why...

There is a lot of talk these days about inflammation and health. Arthritis and cardiovascular health is a big part of this conversation.  I won't bore you with the medical details, but believe me-it is important to address this condition and how you it could affect you. There are many ways to approach inflammation in your body-Indian culture uses Tumeric (which contains Curcumin, an natural anti inflammatory), regularly in their diets as well as Cinnamon, and Cayenne. I regularly drink Tumeric it added it to warm milk for good health. Fresh Ginger and Garlic are amazing for this as well! I regularly eat a clove or two of fresh Garlic at night and swear by it (and no it does not make you stinky!) I encourage you to do your own research on this and decide for yourself. As always, I know what works for me and what I like and that is my point for posting this smoothie recipe. Try it and I hope you enjoy! One more step towards better health everyone! Enjoy!

The Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie!

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 2


1 inch of fresh ginger, grated
1 inch of fresh turmeric, grated
Handful of baby spinach
Handful of watercress (or rocket/arugula)
1 small soft avocado
1/2 capsicum
Big handful of flat-leaf parsley and/ or coriander
1 cup coconut water (or filtered water)
Big pinch of cayenne
Pinch of salt
1. Grate the roots into the blender and add the avocado and coconut water
2. Blend this to form a base

3. Next add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth

I try to have these ingredients as much as possible anyway, but this is a perfect way to get all of these incredible anti-inflammatory ingredients in one delicious smoothie! If you do have any inflammation, try having this juice daily along with your regular diet for a few weeks – you might get a whole lot more energy too!
